Middle Eastern countries, such as Afghanistan, have always seen the poor treatment of women and children throughout history. Their rights are almost non-existent, while the men have all the right to do to them whatever they please. It is, however, fortunate that there are a few who rise up and go against the wrong, even if it means putting their life in danger. One of them is Noorjahan Akbar, a 19–year–old student at the Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

Brothers Charles and David Koch run the second biggest conglomerate in the United States, the Koch Industries Inc. The huge empire, although blemished by years of bitter family feuds and lawsuits, has survived and now become a thriving petroleum and manufacturing industry with subsidiaries that includes Georgia Pacific, Invista, Koch Pipelines, Matador Cattle Company, and Flint Hills Resources among others. The two brothers are also popular due to their political activism.

Geoffrey Canada is a renowned social activist and educator, most known for his work as the president and chief executive of the Harlem Children’s Zone, a non-profit organization for poor neighbourhoods aiming to increase high school and college graduation rates by providing free support for the children and their families through various programs designed to enhance their learning abilities and skills. Aside from his efforts in HCZ, Geoffrey is also a board member of the After-School Corporation and the Chairman of the Children’s Defense Fund, organizations that promote the welfare and care of children.

Jack Canfield is well-known all over the world for his book series, “Chicken Soup for the Soul,” and is affectionately known as America’s number one success coach. He is a popular motivational speaker and is oftentimes called upon to do speeches in numerous locations in the United States. He is also the founder of the Transformational Leadership Council, a group of various coaches and trainers in the area of personal and professional development, which since its inception has grown to over 130 members.

Angela Merkel is Germany’s Chancellor and is the leader of the country’s Christian Democratic Union. She is the first woman to have become the Chancellor of Germany, as well as the first woman to have taken a high position in the government. She is also the first woman from Germany to have taken a seat at the European Council, as well as the second only woman to have become its President.

Wael Ghonim is a well-known internet activist, having moderated the Facebook page, "We are all Khaled Saeed," which was one of the main catalysts of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution that ousted the dictator Hosni Mubarak and ushered in a democratic Egypt. His popularity further went up after his emotional interview regarding his 11–day incarceration by the Egyptian police for being an administrator of the said Facebook page.

Ai Weiwei is one of the world’s greatest contemporary artists, having created numerous artworks that have been exhibited in various museums and art galleries around the world. He is also an artist who specializes in different artworks, such as sculpture, installation, architecture, photography, and film. As a testament to his skill in making art, Weiwei was the person who was commissioned along with Herzog and de Meuron to design the Beijing National Stadium, which was used for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Kim Dae-Jung is one of South Korea’s most well-known nationalists, having served his country from a young age, even at the risk of his own life. He is dubbed as the “Nelson Mandela of Asia,” having dedicated his life and career to opposing authoritarian rule and to promoting peace and prosperity for South Korea.

Tory Burch is a well-known fashion designer. Her brand is so popular in the fashion world that there are around 70 Tory Burch stores in the world today. She is also one of the most successful fashion designers today, having been accepted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America after just three years of professionally entering the fashion world. Since she established her fashion line, it has become very famous worldwide, with over 1,000 stores selling her products.
