As one of the most influential teachers/lecturers of health and wellness, Dean Ornish has indeed made his mark in the world by introducing revolutionary, healthy and convenient methods of avoiding diseases. Through his work with the “Preventive Medicine Research Institute,” which he founded himself, Dean has become an established expert on an international level.

James Ephraim Lovelock is a world-renowned scientist, author and inventor. His 1956 invention, the “electron capture detector,” made it possible for scientists to measure just how much carbon dioxide exists in our atmosphere, which then led to postulation about the hole it has created in the ozone layer. Professor Lovelock is also the man behind the “Gaia Hypothesis,” the concept that the Earth is a self-sustaining organism that is ruled by a system meant to sustain life.

Chris Hadfield has brought fame to his home country, Canada, when he became the first Canadian to enter the Russian space ship, Mir, in 1995 and do spacewalks years afterwards. It meant a lot of things. First, the enmity between Russia and Canada, which marked a bloody war in history, has been officially put behind the backs of the two nations now working as a team to make space exploration easier to undertake. Second is that Canada has proven to the world that they too have contributed to the voyage of humanity beyond the Earth. More than just personal glory, Chris Hadfield brought honor to the country to which he humbly credits his success.

If Jane Goodall lived many years ago, then we might suspect that she inspired the character of Jane Porter, Tarzan of the Jungle’s true love. But Jane Goodall was born when the novel Tarzan was already popularly known as a children’s classic book. In her case, it was the other way around—she was inspired by Tarzan of the Jungle. Having Jane for a name was merely a coincidence. From the onset, Jane chose a life that’s far from ordinary. She loved everything about nature and felt at home around animals.

Deepak Chopra is said to be the world’s wealthiest alternative medicine practitioner. He has certainly done well in his own venture: the “Deepak Chopra Center for Wellness.” Since his foray into mind-body wellness, he has authored over 70 books; in them, he repeatedly emphasizes how the body’s state is directly proportionate to its emotional condition. Not only did he present his hypotheses through his books, but he also included ways to deal with stressors which adversely affect our physical health and cause us to age more rapidly.
